"How To Be A Woman"
A handheld guide to womanhood. Fall 2022
The goal of this book is to translate the female experience into a physical object. I wanted to push myself to explore the physicality of book making and how it enhances the text and the experience of reading. Through the many pages of unfolding and the need to turn yourself or the book to read, I wanted to create a frustrating experience. The saccharine pinks were made to be annoying, as well as contrast the heavy content of the text. I didn't want to combat the statements made in the text, but instead highlight the helplessness, anger, and sadness that comes with womanhood.
A huge thank you to Joan Chrisler and Ingrid Johnston-Robledo who co-wrote "Woman's Embodied Self: Feminist Perspectives on Identity and Image", where the text for this book is sourced from.
